The Linguistics Discipline at The University of Western Australia is excited to be offering Communication Across Cultures and Languages, an Arts Broadening unit (Category A and B) which can also be taken as an elective in second semester 2012.

This unit introduces students from across a range of disciplines to the basics of cross-cultural communication, emphasising the language practices of different human groups.

The focus is on examining issues such as the social status of world languages, communication strategies relevant to using and interpreting messages and how these vary across languages and cultures. They will also explore bridging cross-linguistic and cross-cultural gaps by investigating how translation, interpreting and language learning work.

The Communication Across Cultures and Languages unit is ideal for students who wish to broaden their global communications skills.
