Construction of a major new $112 million medical research hub at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre will be officially under way tomorrow.
WA Deputy Premier and Health Minister Dr Kim Hames and Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi will be among the guests at the commencement ceremony to mark the significant collaboration between the Federal Government, The University of Western Australia, the WA Institute for Medical Research and other partners.
When completed in 2013, the building will be able to accommodate up to 800 research staff who will undertake global research into treatments for cancers, diabetes, muscular diseases, liver diseases and more.
There will also be interactive areas and a demonstration laboratory to ensure the public, including school students, will be kept up to date with the latest advances in medical research.
