How do you spice up a development workshop for secondary science teachers?

Well, an early morning snorkel over Elizabeth Reef at Cottesloe doesn't hurt.

That's how teachers began the ‘Hot SPICE Marine Biodiversity Workshop' - an event designed by UWA's Centre for Learning Technology and supported by the Oceans Institute to enthuse teachers about our oceans and the latest marine research at UWA.

Teachers heard from Dr Marion Cambridge and Dr Renae Hovey about seagrasses of the region, and how to rehabilitate them in cleared areas.

Following the snorkel, Dr. Anne Brearley and PhD student Cecile Rousseaux gave visitors a demonstration of the Swan River Model in the Hydraulics Laboratory.

The workshop concluded with a tour through the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis, given by Associate Professor Peta Clode and Dr Jeremy Shaw.
