The University of Western Australia is seeking public comment to assist in the development of Campus Plan 2010 - its key planning document for the next decade and beyond.

Campus Plan 2010 will guide the University's planning agenda for its main Crawley Campus on Stirling Highway and other University-owned land and buildings adjacent to the main campus including residential colleges, and the Nedlands and Park Avenue sites north of Stirling Highway.

Every 10 years, the University reviews the development of the past 10 years and prepares a master plan for the future.  It identifies key planning issues and areas for development and also addresses issues such as the heritage and the architecture of proposed new buildings; landscaping; community access and facilities; sport and recreation facilities and the quality of student life.

With more than 22,000 students and 3,500 staff, The University of Western Australia is one of the State's biggest employers and a key driver of the State's economy.  This has been recognised in State Government planning documents such as ‘Directions 2031'.

As an open campus, it is used extensively by the local community - for sport and recreation, public lectures and for its art galleries and museums.  The University Club of Western Australia is used by government and the Western Australian business community to host events and meetings.  The Perth International Arts Festival, founded by the University more than 50 years ago, uses many of the University's venues for its arts and cultural program.

Following the public comment period, the plan will be adopted by the University's governing body, Senate, and then sent to the State Government where it will be used to guide future planning decisions.

The public comment period for Draft Campus Plan 2010 closes on 17 September 2010.
