The University of Western Australia has launched a new networking website to enable its graduates to develop greater professional and social links with the University and its alumni.

Developed exclusively for UWA, alumniConnect is a professional and social networking tool that aims to bring together more than 60,000 graduates worldwide.

"This community is the start of a new era for communication with and between our alumni and will support our alumni engagement initiatives," Acting Director of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, Miss Deirdre de Souza said.  "The new alumni web community opens up a world of possibilities for graduates to network within a safe and secure online environment."

alumniConnect's launch follows a two month pilot study involving local, national and international graduates.

It will enable graduates to form personal and professional interest groups to communicate on areas of common interest and to be involved in mentoring, job searching and forum discussions.  It will also keep graduates up to date with news and events across UWA.

Although the focus in alumniConnect is mainly on professional networking, graduates will be able to use the members-only media tools to share photos and videos and to use other interactive services.

"alumniConnect is an investment in future communication with our alumni and offers a fantastic opportunity for enriching and broadening the graduate experience," Miss de Souza said.
