Extraordinary marine images captured by researchers from The University of Western Australia off the State's southern coastline have featured in winning entries in a leading international communications competition.

The 2010 Communicator Awards announced by the International Academy of the Visual Arts is the largest and most competitive awards program honouring creative excellence for communications professionals.

The vision provided by the UWA Marine Futures project , has been used to develop a world first video image swim through produced in collaboration with environmental alliance Save Our Marine Life.

The Bivings Group internet communication firm, which produced the video, won Awards of Excellence in the categories of Online Video - Documentary and Online Video - Education.

The Marine Futures project at UWA's Centre for Marine Futures has produced research to support natural resource management into the future.
