The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics was pleased to announce the recipients of its 2010 Teaching and Learning Awards at a ceremony held at The University Club on Tuesday, 16th March 2010.

The welcome address was given by Winthrop Professor Jane Long, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), who spoke warmly of the importance of excellence in teaching and learning, acknowledging the achievements of the Faculty's dedicated and talented teaching staff.

In his first official role as Dean, Winthrop Professor John Dell congratulated all of the nominees and spoke about an exciting new teaching and learning initiative, the Faculty Academy for the Scholarship of Education (FASE).  FASE will be launched on Friday 26 th March at a lunch time event and Professor Dell warmly encouraged everyone to attend and support this Australian first initiative.

The winners were then announced by Dr Angus Tavner, Associate Dean (Academic) and presented by the Dean.

The 2010 Individual Teaching Award was presented to Assistant Professor Marco Ghisalberti with commendations to Professor Hui Tong Chua and Associate Professor Chris McDonald.

The 2010 Award for Individual Teaching (Early Career), for the first time ever, went to an undergraduate student, Mr Lionel Lam .

The 2010 Award for Honours Supervision went to Associate Professor Hong Yang and the Award for Postgraduate Research Supervision went to Associate Professor Susan Gourvenec with a commendation to Associate Professor Adam Wittek.

Dr Luigi Barone received a commendation in the 2010 Project that Enhances Learning category and the winner of the 2010 Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning Award was Winthrop Professor James Trevelyan .

Dr Tavner closed by congratulating the winners and  announcing that the following staff were being put forward as nominees to the UWA ATLC Awards Selection Committee:

For Teaching Excellence:
(Early Career) Assistant Professor Marco Ghisalberti
Professor Hui Tong Chua

For Programs that Enhance Learning:
Professor Thomas Braunl and Kamy Cheng

For Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning:
Winthrop Professor James Trevelyan
