The Australia-China Council (ACC) invites expressions of interest for grant applications from organisations and individuals for projects in support of ACC goals in priority areas which include: energy development, water, disaster management, mine and workplace safety. Deadline for EOI is 26 March.

ACC goals are to:

1. Foster perceptions of contemporary Australia in China as scientifically, technologically and educationally advanced, economically enterprising and culturally diverse;
2. Increase awareness and understanding in China of Australian society and culture; and
3. Increase Australians' capacity to effectively engage with China.

In 2010-11 priority will be given to projects which seek to strengthen Australia's relationship with China in the areas of education and science, economics and trade and society and culture.

In support of the Year of Australian Culture in China, priority will also be given to projects that take place in China, including activities reaching outside the main centres.

Some examples of the areas which the ACC would consider funding under these three themes include:

  • Intercultural communication, including educational initiatives such as professional development for Chinese language teachers in Australia, cultural awareness, leadership and media exchange;
  • Economics and trade related projects including in e-Commerce, energy development, healthy cities, water, agriculture and sports management with an emphasis on sustainability and the environment (projects cannot benefit an individual company);
  • Health and safety including mine, road and workplace safety, education in schools on safety, safety regulations, accident research, lifesaving techniques, disaster/emergency management;
  • Cultural heritage including the arts, museum curatorship and conservation, architectural/heritage conservation, indigenous culture, Australian studies and new media.

The maximum amount of funding that can be applied for is $30,000 .

Closing date for EOIs: 5.00 pm (AEDST) Friday 26 March 2010

Closing date for submission of invited Full Application: - 7 May 2010
