Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland and State Attorney-General Christian Porter head a distinguished line-up of speakers at this year's Law Summer School, to be held at The University of Western Australia this Friday, February 26.

The Law Summer School is presented by UWA and The Law Society of Western Australia as part of their long-standing partnership.  The first Law Summer School was held in 1961 and was an annual fixture for about 30 years.

This year's program includes sessions aimed at encouraging debate on current issues affecting the legal profession.

Prominent Perth lawyers Malcolm McCusker QC, Linda Black and Laurie Levy SC, will discuss common law and crime, giving practitioners an insight into the role of the CCC, the role of a jury, the right to silence and winning over a jury.

Commissioner of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Belinda Gibson and Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Graeme Samuel will examine the topic of working in a regulated environment.

Parliamentary Inspector of the WA Corruption and Crime Commission and Winthrop Professor of Law at UWA, Christopher Steytler (pictured) will discuss conflicts and ethics while Justice John Chaney, of the State Administrative Tribunal and Federal Court Justice Michael Barker will talk about the law of evidence and using experts in court.

Media representatives are welcome to attend.
