The Faculty is delighted to offer our congratulations to Professor David White , who won the Anton Hales Medal for 2010, recognising his contribution to Earth sciences.

Professor David White , who has worked as a consultant advising on the Gorgon Gas project, was recently awarded a Future Fellowship by the Australian Research Council.

The Anton Hales Medal recognises research in the Earth sciences and honours the contributions to the Earth sciences by the late Professor Anton L Hales FAA.

Professor Hales was the founding director of the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University. The medal is awarded to researchers under the age of 40.

UWA Winthrop Professor Mark Randolph, who nominated Professor White, said he was a researcher of outstanding talent and achievements.

Professor White left a lectureship at Cambridge University in England to become the youngest professor at UWA in 2007 at the age of 31. He has published more than 110 papers, including 47 in journals, with 20 published in the top geotechnical journal, Géotechnique.
