UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Robson has been appointed to an expert committee advising the Federal Government on scientific priorities for a multi-million national endowment fund.

Professor Robson is the only University Vice-Chancellor on the expert advisory committee, chaired by CSIRO chief executive Dr Megan Clark (a UWA graduate) and supported by leading scientists and administrators from CSIRO and the Australian Research Council.  Another committee member, CSIRO Board member, Professor Tom Spurling is also a graduate of UWA.

The Science and Industry Endowment Fund launched today by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr, will be boosted by the investment by CSIRO of $150 million from the proceeds from its Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology licensing program.

The Fund will support fundamental scientific research with potential to benefit Australia - research aimed at solving major challenges facing society today and in future.

It will support projects in new and emerging areas of science, the creation or development of significant national research facilities, and research scholarships and fellowships.
