The University of Western Australia will join universities across Australia in glowing pink for a week to mark the official launch of the National Breast Cancer Foundation's (NBCF) annual Pink Ribbon Campaign.

It is the second time in the campaign's 10-year history that Australian Universities have been asked to light up in pink to illuminate the critical role of research in increasing our understanding of breast cancer.

UWA researchers are producing some world class results in cancer research, including breast cancer.  Illuminating UWA's Winthrop Hall acknowledges that ongoing, sustained research is what holds the key to unlocking the mysteries of this devastating disease, which claims the lives of more than 2,600 women and 95 men in a single year.

One in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer.
