All staff and postgraduate students are invited to volunteer in the Science and Engineering Challenge event, which will take place on November 9-13 and 17.

The Science and Engineering Challenge
is a competition for year 9 high school students which aims to present science and engineering in an inspirational manner, excite the imagination of prospective students and provoke their interest through a variety of well designed tasks.

Activities range from problem solving scenarios to designing and building projects. The program has received enormous encouragement from teachers with many indicating that the Challenge has been vital in engaging and inspiring students towards continuing their studies in Science.

Engineers Australia WA Division and sponsors are organising the State's fourth Science and Engineering Challenge for high school students.

Each day eight schools will send 32 of their bright, energetic Year 9 students. They will all be given hands on tasks to design, build and test during the day's competition. The students will need to work collaboratively in teams of 4 exercising their problem solving skills, applying practical applications of previous learning as well as be involved in logic based activities.

Apart from monetary sponsorship, the "Challenge" requires a large number of enthusiastic volunteers to coordinate and assist with the activities. A total of 26 volunteers are needed for each day of the event.

The volunteers will be working directly with the students, guiding them through their tasks.
