With just a few days until UWA Open Day 2009, we would like to take this chance to update everyone on the fantastic displays and competitions our Faculty will have on offer this year!

To ensure our Faculty is a fun and interactive place to visit, we have taken on a pirate theme for this year's Open Day. The main focus will be on our Treasure Map, which has been developed to link all of our buildings as we are so spread out.

The Treasure Map will encourage people to visit each of our Faculty exhibits where participants must answer a question and collect a sticker. Once all the questions on their treasure map have been answered, they then go into the draw to win a Nintendo DSi with Maths and Brain Training Games (and a runner up prize of an XBOX Game)!

The Faculty's yellow smiley balloons (and a few pirate themed balloons!) will also be on show again this year, helping to link the path from one display to the next. We'll also be distributing fun pirate hats to our Faculty visitors which they can wear and show off around campus. We are sure everyone will want one and they will be lining up to see what's happening in our precinct in no time!

In other UWA Open Day news, the official UWA Open Day website has been launched and the new "design your own program" option for visitors, is up and running. Please take the opportunity to visit the website and familiarise yourself with the many different displays and information sessions our faculty has to offer.

This year you will notice that there are many more activities on campus to encourage more people to attend and spend more time on campus on Sunday 9 August. Some of the events to highlight to our visitors include:

• The Oak Lawn family activities, including petting zoo, face-painting and cup-and-saucer ride;
• Guest lectures on topical issues from Kim Beazley, Peter Quinn and Ken Clements and Ray da Silva Rosa;
• Competitions at nearly every faculty display with exciting prizes up for grabs
• Helicopter rides across campus and the surrounds, departing from the lawn adjacent to the Business School;
• And a hive of activity in the Guild Village, with student clubs, food and DJ Mark Tavelli all on show.

We hope you too are looking forward to UWA Open Day 2009 and whether you're working or not, we encourage you, your family and friends to come to the campus and experience everything we have to offer. Don't forget to stop by the Faculty marquee to say hi or to ask any questions you may have during the day.
