(Released on Tuesday July 7)

The University of Western Australia has been described as an "excellent, high-quality, well-managed university with a bold vision" by Australia's foremost higher education review body.

The Australian Universities Quality Agency undertook an audit of the University earlier this year as part of its role in monitoring standards in tertiary institutions.

The final report of the audit, released today, said: "UWA is an excellent, high-quality, well-managed university with a bold vision, a strategic objective of becoming a top-50 ranked university in the world by 2050 and a strong commitment throughout the University to achieve this objective."

The report also found that the student experience of international students at UWA was very positive.

"UWA has made considerable progress in internationalisation in recent years and the performance of international students in Australia and offshore is comparable with that of Australian students," the report said.

"On balance, international students onshore feel welcome and appreciate the opportunity to study at a highly regarded Australian university."

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Robson said the findings reflected the University's resolve to become one of the top 50 universities in the world, achieving international excellence in teaching and learning and research.

"Our University is proud of its achievements, particularly the high standards of teaching and research excellence, the learning experience it offers domestic and international students and the high quality of students and graduates," he said.

The University was commended for its management, improvements in teaching and various approaches to enhance the student experience.  The audit report also said that the quality of teaching at UWA had improved considerably by national comparisons, resulting in successes in the national Learning and Teaching Performance Fund and accolades from students and employer groups for the quality of UWA courses.

It also commended the University for its "wide and successful consultation process" leading up to the introduction of the course structures review, a once-in-a-generation review that will bring UWA into a graduate school model with a strong focus on a broad education.
