Applications are invited from suitably qualified international students for scholarships to undertake the degree of Master by Research or Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Western Australia.

The purpose of the IPRS ( International Postgraduate Research Scholarships) and the UWA SIRF ( Scholarships for International Research Fees) scheme is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas in which the University has specialised research strengths and to support Australia's research effort.

Successful applicants can expect to become members of a research team working under the direction of senior researchers and in an area which has attracted external resources.

Applications for all international scholarships are by online form through the iAthena Scholarship System

Applications for IPRS, SIRF and Indian SIRF Scholarships are now open from Tuesday 2 June to Friday 14 August 2009. These scholarships are for study in Semester 1, 2010.

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) are funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the Scholarships for International Research Fees (SIRF) are funded by The University of Western Australia.

Both of these scholarships cover tuition fees and health insurance premiums only. The University provides a University Postgraduate Award International Students (UPAIS) or a University International Stipend (UIS) living allowance scholarship of $AU 20,427 per annum (in 2009) for successful IPRS and SIRF applicants and an allowance for thesis production costs. Travel and relocation costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

There will be approximately 10 IPRS scholarships allocated to UWA.  Any IPRS scholarship awarded must also be awarded a living allowance scholarship (UPAIS). These can be funded by the Faculty's UPA quota or from alternative external or internal funding sources.

There will be approximately 40 SIRF scholarships available for award. Each of these must be awarded with a UIS (University International Stipend) living allowance - the UIS living allowance must be funded from sources other than the Faculty UPA quota. This can be from School and/or Faculty internal or external funding sources. The Scholarships Committee will not award a SIRF scholarship without the accompanying UIS living allowance.

India SIRF Scholarships will cover the cost of 50% of all tuition fees for up to 4 years, as well as overseas student health cover. Successful applicants or their sponsors must commit to paying 50% of tuition fee and OSHC costs for up to 4 years. The UIS living allowance will be 50% funded by the University centrally, and 50% funded by the School and/or Faculty from internal or external funding sources. UPA quota living allowances cannot be used for the India SIRF's UIS living allowance scholarships.
