The Faculty's outreach activities have reached a crescendo in recent weeks, culminating in a three day Career, Education and Employment Expo at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre attended by a record 12,000 people!  The result is that now the option of studying computer science, engineering or maths at UWA is foremost in the minds of many students who perhaps thought it was out of reach or that other universities may be a better choice.

On a balmy Tuesday evening, the Faculty mounted a display at the ‘Triple S Science Fair' , held at St Hilda's.  Triple S stands for "Science for School Students" and is a collaborative group of WA's public universities, along with Scitech, the Science Teachers' Association of WA, the Department of Education and Training WA and the Office of Science and Innovation.

The events are held for year 7 - 10 students from all schools and are aimed at inspiring students to have fun with science and continue to study it into years 11 and 12.
Our display included the REV and Motorsport cars along with the Computer Science robot dogs and Mechatronics' robots! Information was provided by staff from CSSE, Maths and Stats, EE&CE and the faculty's outreach team, along with Motorsport and Electrical students. A big thank you to everyone involved!

On the weekend of Friday 15th to Sunday 17th May 2009, the Faculty joined the UWA Prospective Students Office (PSO) to attend the Careers, Education and Employment Expo.  This is the first time we have ever attended a full-scale careers expo and we sought special permission from UWA to supplement the university presence with a stand of our own. The event, which aims to provide study and career advice to prospective students of all ages in one convenient location, achieved record attendance!

The Faculty display was situated adjacent to the UWA stand and it included the UWA Motorsport car and the computer science robot dogs and featured our new 2010 prospectus (which for the first time incorporates computer science and maths). Our display was extremely popular, thanks to our excellent expo team of staff and students and to those adorable robot dogs, whose interactive abilities and sweet natures always win over the crowd! Over 1200 of our brochures were eagerly collected by students and families over the weekend.

We must say a huge thank you to everyone involved, including staff from CSSE and the Faculty office, along with the ‘real live' student volunteers from Motorsport and the UEC, who proved a big hit with visitors. We couldn't have done it without you all!

Whilst these events are excellent for reaching a wide audience and building a solid foundation for our Faculty in the minds of parents and students, our  school visits allow us to extol the virtues of studying here on a more intimate level. A number of schools and organisations request we visit them or they come to campus, which gives us the opportunity to talk with small groups of interested students. These visits go on throughout the year and this month included St Brigid's College and Corpus Christi.
