The Faculty wishes to offer our warmest congratulations to both Professor Andrew Deeks and Dr Wenge Liu on being awarded the ‘Fellowship in Teaching and Learning' by the Teaching Fellowship Scheme Committee.

The Fellowship is for the following field of study: "Impact of a student laptop initiative improving learning outcomes and a study of the costs and benefits of broadening the scheme".

In his work, Dr Wenge Liu addresses the University's education priorities of:

  • recruiting and graduating a diverse student cohort of the highest quality
  • extending high-quality teaching approaches
  • improving learning outcomes.

The Teaching and Learning Committee's Teaching Fellowship Scheme was introduced in 2005 and offers four Fellowships across the University on an annual basis. In 2009 these Fellowships are valued at $22,000 each.

The Scheme is designed to support the University's education priorities as identified in the Operational Priorities Plan. For 2009 the education strategic objective is to improve the quality of the student learning experience.

The Scheme is constructed to support innovative, reasonably short-term projects and to encourage projects that impact upon or could be adopted beyond the individual School/Administrative Section.

There are three elements to the Fellowship: research and development, a teaching and learning project and dissemination including the provision of the article prepared for publication in a refereed international journal.

Dr Wenge Liu and his team set today's standards of excellence in IT services. This award recognises that much of the success is directly attributable to Wenge and his team's efforts.
