In keeping with our long-established tradition of providing top quality legal education and undertaking high-impact research, our law students will stand to benefit from the recent research activities of our teaching staff - for example:

Associate Professor Robyn Carroll has published an article on 'The role of vindication in tort damages' in the March issue of the Tort Law Review , with former senior law lecturer Normann Witzleb ( (2009) 17 Tort L Rev 16).

Robyn also recently presented a paper on 'Mediation of Guardianship Issues: An Australian Perspective' with Anita Smith, President of the Tasmanian Guardianship Board, at the National Guardianship and Administration Conference held in Brisbane.

In May and June, Robyn will be off to Aix-Marseille as a Visiting Professor, where she will present a paper on 'Ordered Apologies for Discrimination and Vilification - An Analysis of the Futility Argument' at the 6th International Remedies Discussion Forum.

Our Deputy Law Dean, Winthrop Professor Peter Handford has published an article on 'Edward John Eyre and the Conflict of Laws' in the latest edition of the Melbourne University Law Review .

Associate Professor Antonio Buti has published an article on 'The Stolen Generations and Litigation Revisited' in the previous edition of the Melbourne University Law Review , and on 'Reparations, Justice Theories and Stolen Generations' in the latest edition of The University of Western Australia Law Review . He is also co-author of the book Sports Law published in January 2009 by Oxford University Press.

Associate Professor Eileen Webb will be presenting a paper at the Consumer 09 Conference to be held in Edinburgh in June.

Eileen Webb presented a paper entitled 'Harmonisation of Australian Consumer Law' at the Conference on the Harmonisation of European Consumer Contract Law held at the University of Manchester in January, and a paper entitled 'Harmonisation in Australian and European Consumer Law' at the Consumer Law Roundtable at Monash University in February.

In March, Eileen published an article in the Australian Property Law Journal on 'The Productivity Commission Inquiry Report: The market for retail tenancy leases in Australia'.

Professor Alex Gardner is part of the multidisciplinary UWA team involved in the new National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training . Alex has been advising the State Department of Water on water resources law reform. Alex regularly presents workshops on water resources law for the Faculty Centre for Mining, Energy and Natural Resources .

Associate Professor Brenda McGivern , who teaches Medicine and Law , is currently in Oxford researching for a book about obstetric disputes. She will also present a plenary paper at the 12th Greek/Australian International Legal and Medical Conference which relates to the interface between law, medicine and ethics in treatment decision making, and in particular, the role of clinical ethics committees.

Legal History lecturer, David Ritter, who is based in London as head of Greenpeace's oceans campaign , has two books about to be published - a short book entitled The Native Title Market which will be published by UWA Press in July, and a second, longer work, Contesting Native Title , which will be published by Allen & Unwin in November 2009.
