Community choirs, such as Martin Meader's "Born to Sing" will join choirs from  The University of Western Australia in a  benefit concert for the Red Cross 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal  to be held in Winthrop Hall this Friday.

About 300 singers will come together - from  the UWA School of Music's  Junior  Music  School choir ‘Firebird' and student chamber choir  'The Winthrop Singers', and community choirs 'Born to Sing', ‘Stirling Silver Singers' and the ‘People Who Care' - in the hope of raising more than $20,000 for the bushfire appeal.

Music especially written for the occasion and popular light choral music will feature in the concert, organised as a reminder of the power of singing together in building community, changing lives and helping people cope, even in the face of unimaginable adversity.

‘Born to Sing' Musical Director, Martin Meader, recently visited Victoria along with several other choir members, where they met members of the fire-devastated communities of Eaglehawk and Whittlesea and handed over a donation of $22,650 to the Red Cross appeal.

The concert will take place at 7.30pm on Friday April 3 in UWA's Winthrop Hall. The singers, from diverse backgrounds, boast ages spanning nine decades.

Tickets for the concert are $25 and are available through the School of Music and ‘Born to Sing'. (Contact Claire McGowan 08 6488 2054).
