The Strategic Review 2009 is now well underway in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, with a large amount of data currently being collected and provided to the Co-Chairs, and a number of workshops planned or completed.

All staff in the Faculty are reminded to continually check the Strategic Review 2009 website for updates and upcoming opportunities and workshops.

Update on Activities and Progress

  • The provisional terms of reference for each Strategic Review Area have been placed on the website , and submitted to the ECM Summit and the Faculty Leadership for Comment;
  • The Research Co-Chairs held a very successful workshop for Level A, B and early Level C Academic Staff and associated Professional Staff, which solicited feedback on the issues of Teaching and Research Balance, Support for Early Career Academics and the Ingredients Neccessary for a Vibrant Faculty Research Community. Notes from this discussion will soon be available online, under the Research Strategic Review Area, and a forum has been established online to facilitate further discussions on this subject area;
  • The Industry and Community Partnerships, Alumni and Foundations Co-Chairs also held a successful first scoping workshop, which examined the strengths and weaknesses of the Faculty in this area, and provided feedback on what activities the Faculty should stop, keep and start. Notes from this workshop will also be available on the website in the near future;
  • The Education Co-Chairs have intiated a series of small working parties to collect data and provide on overview of the Education review area. These working parties will feed into a larger workshop (see below);

Watch this space!

  • The Education Co-Chairs will be holding their scoping workshop on Friday 3 April 2009 from 2.30pm - 4.30pm, with the venue to be advised. Interested staff are asked to keep this time free, and further details will be circulated and placed on the website as the event approaches;
  • The Research Co-Chairs will be holding two more workshops, one for Level C, D and E Academic and Professional Staff on Tuesday 7 April from 2.30 - 4.00pm, and a Sundowner for Postgraduate students on Tuesday 2 April from 4.00 -5.30pm (Venues to be advised, and more details will be provided shortly);
  • A call for submissions will soon be made to allow all staff in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics to submit written responses to the terms of reference;
  • The Co-Chairs of the Physical, Information, Communication and Computing Infrastructure; and Governance and Management are in the process of finalising the dates of their scoping workshops, and these will be advertised to the Faculty through email and on the website in the near future;
