West Australian businessman and philanthropist Stan Perron will this week receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters at The University of Western Australia.

Chairman of the privately owned Perron Group of Companies, Mr Perron is one of eight recipients of an Honorary Degree during the University's Autumn Graduation Ceremonies, which begin tonight.

They will join 2,928 graduands who will receive bachelor degrees, diplomas, Masters and higher degrees in 10 ceremonies during the next three weeks in Winthrop Hall.

The graduands include 90 PhDs from across the faculties, 249 doctors, 46 dentists, 291 engineers, 139 lawyers, 436 scientists and 474 graduates receiving a Bachelor of Commerce.

Tonight, Tuesday, March 17, awards will be conferred in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The Honourable Justice Nicholas Hasluck QC, who will deliver the Occasional Address, will also receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters.

Tomorrow, awards will be conferred in the faculties of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

Mr Perron will receive his honorary degree during Thursday's ceremony, which will involve the conferral of awards in the Business School.

Among those to be awarded honorary degrees are former Notre Dame Vice-Chancellor, Dr Peter Tannock, former Wesfarmers Chairman Trevor Eastwood and UWA's Associate Professor Veronica Brady.

The ceremonies will conclude on Thursday, April 2.
