Business research and education in Western Australia have received a boost with WestNet Infrastructure Group committing $200,000 to The University of Western Australia's Business School.

At an official signing ceremony today, WestNet Infrastructure Group's CEO John Cleland said the company was proud to sponsor an institution of international prominence.

"WestNet Infrastructure Group applauds the level of excellence being achieved within the Business School and looks forward to maintaining a long-term involvement in the continuing development of internationally recognised business research and postgraduate education within The University of Western Australia," said Mr Cleland.

UWA Vice Chancellor, Professor Alan Robson, welcomed the sponsorship and congratulated WestNet Infrastructure Group on its commitment to teaching and learning.

"Today's sponsorship is an example of a true spirit of cooperation - bringing together the strength of our University with the strength of this State's leading infrastructure group," Professor Robson said.

Business School Dean Tracey Horton said the new Business School building, located at the southern end of campus, was now occupied by staff and students. "It stands as a tribute to the generous support and commitment of many sponsors and donors, the Business School Board and Fundraising Committee," she said.

"The investment by all supporters of the Business School represents a commitment to the development of future business leaders with internationally recognised skills and capabilities. Achieving international standards of excellence is an expensive and competitive enterprise, and further support is needed to ensure the Business School competes in the global arena."

"Commitments from companies such as WestNet Infrastructure Group support our objective to ensure WA is recognised as an international hub for the development of business, research and leadership skills," she said. "It also allows the Business School to facilitate a range of business and leadership professional development activities."
