Several of Australia's leading university sailors have been honoured for their sporting prowess at The University of Western Australia's 2014 Sports Awards in Perth.

Skipper Samuel Gilmour and his crew - Adam Negri, Christopher Smith and Steven Thomas - all UWA Commerce students, were named the 2014 Australian University Sport (AUS) Team of the Year after winning silver at the 2014 World University Match Racing Championship at Lago di Ledro, Italy. This title is returning to the crew after winning the award in 2012 for their gold medal performance at the World University Sailing Championship in Nice, France.

A recent graduate of UWA, Samuel Gilmour was also named the 2014 AUS Male Athlete of the Year for the second time, for his achievement at the 2014 Championship in Italy. Gilmour first won the accolade in 2012 for his gold medal performance at the World University Sailing Championship in Nice, France.

Samuel, Christopher and Steven, inducted to the AUS Honour Roll in 2012 as medallists, were this year named AUS Honour Roll Champions, while newcomer to the team Adam Negri was named an AUS Honour Roll medallist.

Held at The University Club of Western Australia, the UWA Sports Awards celebrate and recognise the sporting excellence of UWA student athletes and contributions made by UWA sports club volunteer members, in the company of alumni and University VIPs.
