In March 2016, highschool students from St Stephen's School in Duncraig visited the Helicobacter Research Laboratory. Research Associate Dr Alfred Tay presented an overview of the Helicobacter Research Laboratory's work and some fairly graphic pictures of H.pylori and its effects on the stomach.
On 31st March, Thursday, medical experts of Xiamen University and University of Western Australia, Professor Qian Xiaoyan, Professor Barry Marshall (Nobel Laureate) and Professor Geoff Riley hosted a conversation about common diseases from the perspectives of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine.

In honour of its former Co-Director, the Marshall Centre for Infectious Diseases Research and Training has established the Geoff Shellam Memorial Prize in Infectious Diseases at UWA.
The annual prize will be awarded to the student who obtains the highest weighted average mark in the Masters in Infectious Diseases and will be awarded at the Prize Giving Ceremony held at UWA at the beginning of each academic year.
