University CFO and CIO announcement

I am pleased to announce the appointments of the University’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Jonathan Cowper has been appointed CFO and will join UWA on Monday 10 July.  Jonathan is an experienced CFO having worked for leading FTSE 100 organisations in both the UK and Australia.  Most recently he was Group Finance Director for AB Sugar, a world leading manufacturer based in the UK where he helped to reshape the business portfolio and drive performance improvement projects across the businesses.

Your Say survey final completion rates

Thank you to everyone who completed the Your Say survey - we had a final response rate of 42%. A breakdown of the response rate by portfolio and faculty is below.

We will receive a survey report for the full university as well as a number of reports for some faculties and functional areas which will be shared with staff later in the year. The results will be used to create and implement university-wide and local area action plans to address any issues or gaps identified from the survey.

The UWA Library is rolling out academic profiles for UWA’s research and teaching staff in the UWA Research Repository as part of a project sponsored by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research.

The project will consolidate the multiple online profiles currently available at UWA into a single, easily discoverable profile that ensures the work and achievements of UWA staff are communicated fully and accurately to researchers, students, industry partners and the wider community.

Established in 2001, the awards recognise significant artistic achievements and excellence in classical music, comedy, contemporary music, dance and physical theatre, musical theatre and opera.

New Service Portal

The new IT Service Portal (pictured below) will go live on July 1, and will improve the way that staff, students and guests engage with IT. The Portal will provide a user-friendly method of requesting services and assistance, enabling staff, students and guests to quickly find what they’re looking for. This uplift will bring University IT in line with similar service providers, allowing for quicker identification and resolution of issues.

Sri Sugiarto (Ria) has been at UWA less than a year but she’s already making her mark. The first year PhD student had her work on improving the use of malaria drugs acknowledged earlier this year when she was awarded the Hadi Soesatro Prize.

The award supports Indonesian academics who are completing their doctorates in Australia with the aim to develop young leaders and promote educational links between the two countries.

“I completed my medical degree in Indonesia and became really interested in infectious disease and public health.
