The ‘Oracle’ calls it a day with a final tour

Tuesday, 7 February 2017

It was a grand campus tour fit for an ‘Oracle’.

In December our much beloved UWA icon dubbed the ‘Oracle’ donned his UWA gear and vast campus knowledge to give staff the final ‘Terry Tour’.

Terry Larder had been welcoming staff, students and the general community to UWA for 28 years.

After almost three decades of service, Terry decided to call it a day, but not before he made his mark in the form of fun and frivolity.

A mural made with smiles and giggles

Thursday, 2 February 2017

It was all smiles and giggles when a new mural featuring the Jacaranda tree was unveiled at a special morning tea at the UWA Early Learning Centre (ELC) last week.

In August last year ELC celebrated its 5th birthday. To further commemorate this big milestone in tiny tot years – the staff and pre-schoolers decided to embark on a collaborative mural.

Using the Jacaranda tree from the ELC’s logo as their inspiration, the children worked hard to transform the limestone bricks into a vibrant mosaic which now sits proudly in the pre-school yard at the UWA ELC.

Sensationalism sells but should it?

Thursday, 2 February 2017

For Dr Michael Jetter the opportunity to work at an established research-intensive University was the perfect motivation to move over 16,000 kilometres across the world.

Joining the UWA Business School 18 months ago, his role combines research and teaching activities on some of society’s most critical issues such as corruption, terrorism and gender inequality.

Originally from Germany, Michael was in his home country last year when Bavaria was shaken by three violent incidents and he witnessed first-hand how subsequent media coverage played into the perpetrators’ hands.
