The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics was pleased to announce the recipients of its 2010 Teaching and Learning Awards at a ceremony held at The University Club on Tuesday, 16th March 2010.
An exciting new initiative for staff.... FASE to launch soon
This year on the 26th of March, the Faculty is thrilled to launch FASE (the Faculty Academy for the Scholarship of Education). Based on the successful model developed at the Lund Institute of Technology, FASE will be a membership organisation with the aims of enhancing the scholarship of education in Engineering, Computing and Maths; providing a scholarly framework for the development of new curricula; and providing support, training and continuing professional development in advanced pedagogical approaches based on research evidence.
What does an engineering student really need to know and be able to do? If you met a graduate from UWA what would you be embarrassed that they hadn't mastered? What are the tricky troublesome areas which always catch some students out whilst others sail through? Which are the questions students always mess up in exams no matter how much we go over the topic in lectures? These are some of the very obvious but critically important issues we are currently trying to think about in building our new Foundation program.
As Faculty members will know from previous circulars, the Faculty's Phase I proposals for majors were endorsed by the Interim Boards of Studies at their recent January meetings, and we are now entering Phase II of the Future Framework process.
Phase I of the Future Framework implementation is now complete. The Expressions of Interest and a summary of the deliberations of the Steering Committee are available on the ECM Future Framework website. To access the Future Framework website you will require your staff number and Pheme password.
The Interim Board of Studies of Science strongly endorsed the Faculty's EOI for Majors. Their responses are available on the ECM Future Framework website. The first deadlines for Phase II are for the submission of expressions of interest for Unattached Units and End-on Honours by 22nd of February for Masters by 1st March.
