The Faculty is delighted to offer our congratulations to Charitha Pattiaratchi, Winthrop Professor of Coastal Oceanography and Leader of Coastal Oceanography Group, for receiving AU$ 1.5 million funding for the purchase of additional gliders.
The Faculty is delighted to announce that last week, during the annual STLE (Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers) meeting in Orlando, USA, Professor Gwidon Stachowiak was awarded a prestigious STLE Fellowship for his outstanding contributions to tribology.
The Faculty wishes to offer our congratulations to WATRI's (Western Australia Telecommunications Research Institute) Research Director, Professor Antonio Cantoni and Adjunct Professor Zigmantas Budrikis who together with Avonlea's Manager/Consultant, Professor John Hullett, were awarded a Clunies Ross Award by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).
The award was given in recognition of excellence in the application of science and technology for the economic, social and environmental benefit of Australia.
A number of people make outstanding contributions to the University in a variety of ways. It is the wish of the Senate that the contributions of these people should be recognised through the award of a Chancellor's Medal.
After five years as the Head of the School of Civil and Resource Engineering and a very productive career as a researcher and teacher at The University of Western Australia, Winthrop Professor Andrew Deeks will sadly be leaving the Faculty to take up a position as Pro Vice Chancellor (Science) at Durham University in the United Kingdom commencing October 1.
