One of Western Australia's most experienced arts administrators and academics will outline a potential future for the State's art and cultural communities at an event next Thursday.

Some of the possible outcomes of Perth's ‘Vision for the Arts' taskforce will be discussed by Professor Margaret Seares AO on Thursday 4 September at the annual Reid Oration.

Professor Seares is Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at The University of Western Australia, a former Chair of the Australia Council for the Arts, and former CEO of the Western Australian Department for the Arts (now the Department for Culture and the Arts).

She is also Chair of the ‘Vision for the Arts' taskforce, part of the Committee for Perth, that has been investigating new directions for arts and culture.

The taskforce has worked with more than 200 stakeholders in past months to identify the key ideas and strategies to develop a long-term vision for the arts and culture sector.

Professor Seares will give an insight into the project, as well as outlining potential outcomes for ensuring the ongoing vitality of the arts in Western Australia.

The Reid Oration was established by the Institute of Public Administration Australia (WA Division) in 1991 to honour the former WA Governor and UWA academic, the late Professor Gordon Reid.

The oration is a joint collaboration between the Institute and The University of Western Australia.
