Students enrolled in the Master of Professional Accounting at The University of Western Australia will now be able to complete the professional requirements of the Charted Accountants (CA) qualification as part of their degree, in a move that will set students apart in the job market.

The inclusion of the CA Program will provide a degree that no other WA university offers. As well as a valuable opportunity for local students to complete a degree in tandem with the CA qualification, it will be valuable for international students who may not have access to the professional requirements of the CA Program in their home country.

The CA Program, delivered by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, is a globally recognised Program connecting UWA students to a 1,000,000 strong global knowledge network.

UWA Professor of Accounting and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching Professor Phil Hancock said the Program would give students a great advantage in the job market.

“The internationally-recognised CA qualification will help expand their job opportunities significantly,” Professor Hancock said.

“This course is perfect for students who studied in a field other than accounting prior to commencing a Master’s degree so they can still graduate fully qualified after two years at UWA.”

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Group Executive of Education and Learning Simon Hann said there was a range of benefits students would reap from the partnership.

“Students who obtain a CA qualification will gain a significant head start in their careers,” Mr Hann said.

“The CA Program combines the rigour of education and the practical application of learned skills in the workplace.

“Forming part of our broader plan to refresh the CA Program, this new study pathway will attract a more diverse range of talent into the profession and help business professionals looking to kick start their careers in accounting.”

Chartered Accountants is the only professional accounting body approved as a Higher Education Provider by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), Australia's independent national regulator of the higher education sector.
