A team of over 80 UWA student athletes are ready to travel to the Gold Coast to compete in the 2019 Australian UniSport Nationals Div 1.

Athletes from sports as diverse as cheer and kendo will represent UWA at Australia’s largest annual multi-sport event against teams from over 40 universities.

The team will wear the new UWA jersey, incorporating Indigenous design by UWA student Aaron Sutton.

Kendo will begin the competition on Saturday 28 September, before the Team Captain’s Welcome on Sunday.

The team captains for 2019 are ultimate player Thomas Kinsella and Beatriz Gonzalez from cheer & dance.

Speaking before the tournament, the captains said there was plenty to look forward to at the national competition.

“I am super excited to see all our hard work pay off and bond with my team on the Gold Coast,” said Beatriz.

Meanwhile, Thomas said, “I started playing ultimate for 2017 Nationals and completely fell in love with it. I’m really excited for the opportunity to step up as a leader this year.”
