It was a tough introduction to Uni 7s for Team UWA, with just one win in five games.

The newest side to the national competition started well, defeating University of Canberra 17-12.

Tries for Zion Taurima, Leanna Ryan, and Ayisha Wigley, as well as a conversion by Leanna Ryan was enough to see off Canberra, giving Team UWA a strong start.

The young team struggled in their next four rounds, coming up against more experienced opponents.

UWA was drawn against UTS and Uni Queensland, who ultimately finished second and first at the end of the tournament.

The steep learning curve won’t deter the players, who will travel to Bond University at the end of the month for the second tournament.
