The 2019 FINA World Swimming Cup held in Tokyo proved a successful campaign for three UWA West Coast Club swimmers, sharing in 6 medals between them.

UWA West Coast Club swimmer Brianna Throssell continued her strong form, backing up her world championships titles with a gold medal and multiple podium finishes.

Brianna won gold medal of the competition in the 200m freestyle at 1:56.99, just ahead of Australian team-mate Madison Wilson.

Brianna also finished second in the 200m butterfly behind Katinka Hosszu.

The time is a new season best for the UWA West Coast athlete, moving her up to ninth place in the 2019 World Rankings.

Elsewhere, Brianna also reached the podium, winning silver in the 4x100m mixed medley and bronze in the 100m butterfly.

UWA graduate and 2019 Westpac Swimmer of the Year Holly Barrett was also on form, taking out gold in the 50m freestyle and finishing fourth in the 50m backstroke final.

In the Men’s events, UWA West Coast Club team mates Grant Irvine and Nic Brown both found their form against strong international competition.

Returning to the Australian setup, Grant won silver in the 100m butterfly, finishing at 51.63 just behind USA’s Andrew Seliskar.

Meanwhile student athlete Nic finished strongly in sixth place in the 200m butterfly finals.

With another strong performance at the closure of one of the biggest international swimming events in the world, Tokyo 2020 is getting closer and closer for many athletes.
