Team UWA came away with one gold medal at Nationals Div 2 after a week of competition on the Gold Coast.

The UWA Badminton team secured first place, which will see them promoted to compete in Div 1 this year.

The team of student athletes Kai Chen Teho, Ash Lau, Jasper Tan, and Daniel Jin finished the group in top place, before beating both UTS and RMIT in the semi-final and final respectively.

Elsewhere, in the women’s tennis Team UWA finished fifth after just missing out on a semi-finals berth.

The men’s team found less success; after a strong performance in their pool, two defeats in a row saw them end the tournament in ninth place.

UWA’s men’s futsal team also finished in ninth place, putting eight past Swinburne in the ninth/tenth place play-off match.

Team UWA also featured women’s basketball and netball teams at the tournament, finishing in thirteenth and fifteenth respectively.

UWA will so send a range of teams to Nationals Div 1, which will be held on the Gold Coast from 28 September to 3 October.
