It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr Jesse Santoso to the UWA Centre for Energy as a Research Associate in January 2019.
Jesse will be working on an ARC funded project “Low-Temperature Plasma-Catalytic Conversion of CH4 and CO2 to Alcohols with Simultaneous H2 Recovery” with Chief Investigators Mr Dongke Zhang and Dr Mingming Zhu. This ARC Discovery Project examines the use of plasma in conjunction with an appropriate catalyst to convert carbon dioxide and methane into alcoholic fuels with the simultaneous recovery of hydrogen as clean fuels. Mr Dongke Zhang, Director of the Centre for Energy, says “I am delighted to have Jesse joined us on this very interesting and exciting ARC project. Jesse has brought with him a great deal of enthusiasm, energy and, more importantly, interdisciplinary expertise to our Centre.”
Jesse was raised in Tasmania, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in astrophysics. Outside of academia, he enjoys a broad array of activities including soccer, frisbee, bushwalking, cycling, swimming, and long-distance running. In 2018, he completed his PhD at ANU in plasma physics, with a focus on the production of negative hydrogen ions for nuclear fusion related technology. Already got his hands dirty in setting up a new and simple reactor system, Jesse says “It’s exciting to get the opportunity to apply my existing skills to a whole new type of plasma reactor, and to build upon those skills with exposure to the areas of catalysis and chemical analysis. I look forward to exploring the broad range of interesting applications this research could open up.”
