The first round of Western Australian Premier Cricket is underway this weekend, with the UWA Cricket Club squaring off against Joondalup on James Oval.

The team features a core group of young batsmen and talented spinners, including UWA student athlete Will Bosisto , who will lead the team as captain.

Bosisto, a top-order right handed batsman, is a long term player of the University Cricket Club, and is also on the WA Warriors squad sheet. Last year, Bosisto was given the chance to captain the Cricket Australia XI under former Test player Brad Hodge as coach.

Bosisto is also one of the newest additions to UWA Sport’s Student Athlete Development Program, and sits alongside such elite athletes as the Kookaburras’ Ben Craig and international fencer Alannah Maclaurin .

The University team will be looking to improve on last year’s result, which saw a young and inexperienced side face up against the state’s best.

After a poor start, they finished strong, winning five of their last eight matches and making the T20 finals.

University has a strong core group of players who have played 20 to 40 games together, and head coach Will Stibbs will be looking to those players to take the next step in their careers to push the club up to league success.

Will Bosisto follows in the footsteps of other UWA Cricket Club players who have gone on to achieve national and international success in recent times, including Ashton Agar , David Moody , and England’s Nick Compton .
