Twenty two Aboriginal students are currently attending in Study Abroad programs in Chile and Washington DC, USA.  These students are all enrolled in the unit, Indigenous Ways of Knowing (INDG3800) which was offered for the first time this year. The trip will be a chance for the students to explore comparative issues of Indigenous Ways of Knowing within the Mapuche and American Indian Indigenous cultures.

The students who are participating in the Chile program from November 23 – December 7 attended lectures at the University of Valparaiso and also lived with host families, Mapuche who are the Indigenous people of Chile. Ten students left Perth on December 3 for Washington DC, where they are visiting the Smithsonian Institute and the National Museum of the American Indian, as well as various other sites of interest.

Both Study Abroad programs will be completed in early 2015 with the presentation and exhibition of student works at UWA
