What could be better than a stroll through the hills in spring?
The Oxfam Trailwalker challenge is on again in October and while it's more of a hike than a stroll, what makes it better is that all participants will be helping to overcome poverty and injustice around the world.
This year, more than 8,000 people will tackle Australia's premier 100 kilometre endurance challenge. At least 1,800 of those will be in Perth, in 450 teams of four, with the aim of raising $1.7 million.
Several teams of UWA staff and their friends and family took part last year and local organisers are hoping the University will again field some keen fundraisers.
Each team must raise a minimum of $1,400 for Oxfam before taking on the 48-hour event.
Oxfam Trailwalker began in Hong Kong in 1981 and is now a major global endurance challenge, with walks in India, New Zealand, Spain, Japan, France, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Hong Kong and all across Australia.
The event raises around $7 million each year in Australia.
