If you're serious about wanting an easier, happier, healthier and more economical life, you will have been one of the hundreds of UWA employees who visited the expo in the Undercroft recently. The UWA Employee Benefit and Wellbeing Expo offered lots of answers to these challenges, as well as free food and massages.

It was the first time these two branches of Human Resources -- Safety Health and Wellbeing , and Employee Benefits -- had joined together to offer staff opportunities and services that make working at UWA so good.

Easifleet, the company used by UWA for salary-packaging the purchase and running of a new car, had a fleet of new vehicles on the lawn of the Great Court and were giving away free coffee from a van nearby. Health benefits company BUPA ran cooking demonstrations in the Tropical Grove with enough samples of salads, barbecues and snacks to constitute a free lunch. Bankwest attracted a crowd with its chocolate wheel, even though they were only giving away prizes such as pens.

Alternative transport staff from Sustainable Initiatives (in Facilities Management) Alain Twynham and Dan Stone got visitors onto an exercise bike to power up a blender which made them delicious healthy smoothies.

Staff were encouraged to join the Global Corporate Challenge (beginning in May), UniSwim (School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health), UWA Sport and Recreation and Guild Volunteering.

And the longest queue was for free neck, back and head massages provided by health fund HBF.

Celine Gaudin, Manager of Employee Benefits, said she was delighted with the success of the day and had received lots of positive feedback from both exhibitors and employees.

"Most of the employees said they had learned something about what HR has to offer, which was the whole point, so we are very pleased," she said.

Her office has five new benefits to offer staff: discounts from Staples (office stationery), Accor Group and Hyatt (accommodation), Thrifty (car rental) and Ground Transport Solutions (chartered vehicle services).

Celine is about to embark on a monthly online newsletter about staff benefits. Use the heading ‘subscribe'.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing already has a regular newsletter . If you wish to subscribe, once again, use ‘subscribe' in the subject line.
