UWA students Brent Kealy and Matthew Lim have impressed a board of CEOs and executives to be named national runners-up in the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia's Mission Exceptional competition.
Competing against teams from 21 universities, Brent (a Law/Commerce student) and Matthew (a Law/Arts student) were challenged to provide advice to the board of a fictional company, Questiko Enterprises, on whether it should outsource its production to a developing country or keep its operations in regional Australia.
Brent and Matthew's submission earned them a place as one of six finalist teams and a trip to Sydney to present their submission to the judges, where they argued that outsourcing production was the only option.
Delivering a presentation described as "outstanding" by judge Luke Sayers, CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia, Brent and Matthew focused on ensuring a sustainable approach to the supply chain.
Other judges included Lee White, CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia; Jan West AM FCA, Non-Executive Director; Neil Batenburg, CFO of American Express Australia and New Zealand; and Olivia Tyler, Director, United Nations Global Compact Network Australia.
Brent and Matthew are now in the running for the People's Choice Award. Their presentation can be viewed on YouTube .
