Over recent days we have had the pleasure to welcome some important political leaders onto our campus.

This week, the Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia, Professor Dr Boediono, returned to the University to deliver the 52nd Shann Memorial Lecture.

Professor Dr Boediono is an Economics graduate from UWA who also received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Economics from the University in 2011.

The Shann Memorial Lecture honours the 1913 founding Professor of Economics, Edward Shann. During his visit to the University, Dr Boediono had the opportunity meet staff and students, including the Boediono scholars and Indonesian language students.

At the start of the month, the Premier Colin Barnett chaired the first ever Cabinet meeting to be held at a University, in honour of our Centenary.

It is significant that the University holds close connections with influential leaders, at State, national and international level.

Their visits are a fitting end to our Centenary year.
