UWA graduate and amateur athlete Danya Meakins has added another sporting achievement to her CV.

But she would be the first to admit that it's a bit cheesy!

Danya is this year's women's Whistler Cheese Rolling Champion, after beating all her opponents to chase a five-kilogram wheel of cheese down a hill at Whistler ski resort just outside Vancouver.

"I didn't do any special training," said Danya.  "I just really like cheese!  Although I did google how to downhill run."

Danya, the daughter of Bruce and Jeannette Meakins from UWA Sports, has always been athletic.  After graduating at the end of last year with a double degree in Science and Commerce, she represented Australia on the Women's Ultimate Team at the World Ultimate Championships in Japan July this year.

She came fifth in the sport that others might know better as Ultimate Frisbee,  then went travelling, ending up in her mother's home town of Vancouver.  She is living  in Whistler Village, skiing and playing ultimate when she is not working in a local restaurant.

"Being an ultimate player, Danya is very familiar with chasing round things," Jeannette said. "Competing in cheese rolling proves she can chase any disc!"

Danya won a two-week season pass to the ski slopes and plans to invite her friends to a wine and cheese party where they will eat her latest sporting equipment.
