The work of internationally recognised neonatologist Jane Pillow in helping premature babies with respiratory problems has been recognised in the UK-based journal International Innovation - Healthcare Edition.

Professor Pillow, Co-Director of the Centre for Neonatal Research and Education, in UWA's School of Paediatrics and Child Health, features in the journal's current issue , which aims to bring together the latest content, articles and analysis from healthcare research funding initiatives and leading political and administrative figures in the international healthcare community.

Based at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Professor Pillow is acknowledged worldwide as an expert in neonatal respiratory physiology and mechanical ventilation.  Her research has contributed greatly to improving the care available to premature babies at birth as well as their long-term health prospects.

The journal article focuses on her current research project, which aims to improve understanding of the causes of breathing disorders in premature babies and lead to new and improved technologies and treatments.

Professor Pillow's research project is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council in Australia, the National Institutes of Health in the United States, UWA, Telethon, Women and Infants' Research Foundation and Sylvia and Charles Viertel Medical Research Foundation.

The project involves fellow researchers from universities in the US, Hungary and Switzerland as well as Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Monash Institute for Medical Research in Melbourne and UWA, Princess Margaret Hospital and Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.
