National sporting organisation Swimming Australia will strengthen its decision making over the next Olympic and Paralympic preparation and beyond with the assistance of researchers at the
UWA Business School
.
The new three-year research program will examine areas including leadership and culture, self-determination theory and sport analytics, all of which have the potential to combine to influence the success of swimmers and the EnergyAustralia Swim Team overall.
Assistant Professor Michele Roberts said the project would look at how these factors can be best configured to ensure optimal individual and team performance.
"The work will independently analyse the Australian swimmers and coaches with a view to understanding the key management issues determining their success," Assistant Professor Roberts said.
Swimming Australia President Barclay Nettlefold said his organisation's partnership with UWA is another supportive measure to ensure the EnergyAustralia Swim Team has every opportunity to perform at their best.
"We're extremely excited about this project and it's just another proactive step that we're taking to understand and identify the key factors involved in establishing a positive team culture and an environment that will promote high performance," Nettlefold said.
Over the next three years, it is expected the UWA research team will use statistical models and skilled experts to deliver a competitive advantage for the EnergyAustralia Swim Team on the journey towards Rio in 2016.
