Following a recommendation outlined in the UWA Strategic Plan, the UWA Albany Foundation terminated at the end of 2011.

A Sundowner was held on Friday 24 February at the UWA Albany Centre to pay tribute to over 50 past and present Foundation members and organisations. These people and organisations have been crucial in lobbying for a tertiary institution's presence in Albany over the past 30 years and supporting UWA Albany during the past 12 years.

UWA Albany is entering a new and exciting phase as it seeks to grow and become a vibrant regional campus embedded in the Great Southern community.

‘From only 20 students in 1999 to over 120 in 2012, it has been rewarding to be part of the process that has seen the vision become a reality. UWA Albany is now firmly established in the region and I'm looking forward to seeing more students take advantage of the range of courses on offer,' commented Chairman Dr Alex Campbell.

2012 will see the completion of the UWA Sciences Building which will be a state-of-the-art science facility providing administrative, research and teaching spaces for the Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management and the Rural Clinical School of WA.

UWA Albany is looking forward to the arrival of the newly appointed Chair in Biodiversity, Professor Stephen Hopper. Internationally renowned plant conservation biologist Professor Stephen Hopper FLS will strengthen the research in natural research management already being undertaken in the region through CENRM.

‘Our key supporters will continue to play an important role in the life of UWA Albany. We look forward to working closely on strengthening our relationships as we head into this new chapter of our journey,' said Albany Centre Director Jennifer O'Neil.
