The University of Western Australia Business School student Andrew Fragomeli will attend this year's Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Hawaii.

Andrew will attend the summit, held between 8 and 14 November, as part of the Global Voices Australian Youth Delegation.

He will join nine other students from across Australia who make up the delegation and will receive a fully sponsored package to attend the summit.

Delegates will have the chance to interact with world leaders at the forum. They will be able to share their views on the APEC vision with the APEC leaders, senior officials, APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) members and CEOs.

Delegates may also be able to attend some of the ABAC meetings, attend press conferences at the APEC Media Centre, observe special APEC symposiums on the current agenda and view the proceedings of the APEC CEO Summit.

‘I'm keen to learn more about the economic prospects in the Asia-Pacific, including trade barriers and economic development, all of which I am really interested in,' said Andrew.

‘I hope to generate interest and feedback, highlighting the interaction of youth in our community with programs such as this and the opportunities they provide.'

Last year's delegates met with Prime Minister Julia Gillard in her private hotel room, as well as with key business leaders such as Lindsay Fox.

Andrew is in his final year of a combined Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Commerce degree program at the UWA Business School, and will commence in a graduate role at The Treasury next year.

In preparation for the summit, Andrew is completing a two-month Research Fellowship, which has already involved meetings in Canberra with relevant Ministers and diplomatic representatives.

He will produce a paper examining "behind the borders' impediments to trade in the Pacific Rim region. All papers produced by the delegates will be distributed to the relevant summit secretariats and academic journals for consideration for publication.
