The past two weeks has seen outstanding UWA Albany student Linda Warren showered with awards. Ms Warren, who is studying for her Bachelor of Arts degree, recently received the prestigious Hedi Szasz scholarship, which is awarded to only two students each year.
‘The Hedi Szasz scholarship is open to students on the Perth campus as well as Albany so it’s quite competitive,’ said Ms Warren. ‘It’s based on merit but it’s also an award that recognizes that it can be difficult to for students to keep up their studies for various reasons. I think that can be especially true for mature age students living in regional areas, so the scholarship is very welcome’.
But Ms Warren was quick to point out that there were also advantages in studying at a regional campus. ‘UWA Albany has been a very supportive environment and I like that I get to know all the staff and students. It’s a great community,’ she said.
It was Ms Warren’s own contributions to the academic and social life of the UWA Albany Centre that saw the second year anthropology student also receive the 2011 Friends of UWA Albany prize.
‘Friends of UWA Albany value students for helping to create a setting that encourages other students to study at UWA Albany, rather than purely wishing to reward high achievement. Linda has certainly excelled in both these areas,’ said President Murray Arnold.
