A passion for natural resource management and environmental sustainability led UWA Albany Centre student Charissa Wright to apply for the Investing in Youth Undergraduate Studentship Program.
Currently studying a Bachelor of Science at The University of Western Australia, Ms Wright has a particular interest in salt-resistant plants and bush tucker food and the viability of primary industries in arid zones.
"I'm very honoured to be selected for the program, " said Ms Wright. "It's a great opportunity to get career advice and work experience. It will really help me decide the direction I want to head in".
As one of 10 successful applicants from around Australia, Ms Wright will receive financial support, a professional mentor to support her, career-relevant industry placement, and employment opportunities during and after undergraduate study.
Ms Wright will have an opportunity to meet with other successful applicants in Canberra when they gather for a four-day workshop to develop skills in leadership, problem-solving and goal-setting.
"I'm really looking forward to continuing my studies at the UWA Albany Centre. All the units look so interesting," Ms Wright commented.
