Under some tricky wet conditions, the 2018 Gallipoli Run at Kings Park was a poignant reminder of sacrifices made in World War One.

The 2018 Run marked the centenary of the end of the war in 1918, commemorating the fallen service men and women that embodied the Anzac spirit.

Starting from Synergy Parklands, the race was split between 4km and 8km options.

The event opened with John Gilmour OAM citing the ‘Ode’, accompanied by Dave Scott playing the bugle.

Poignantly, the bugle being played by Dave Scott belonged to Western Australian Soldier Gordon Pearse who joined up in 1914.

In the 8km category, UWA students found themselves on the podium in both the men’s and women’s events.

Student athlete Ben Chamberlain came second in the men’s race behind winner Nic Harman, while student Tanisha Cayley came third in the women’s race, behind Amberley Matuskiewicz and winner Ellie Jones.

Ben is a finance student who first came onto the scene at the 2010 Junior Nationals, where he overcame his nerves to take the silver.

Tanisha also runs health food blog Eat Sleep Run Repeat , which focuses on a range of healthy meals for athletes on the go. You can read Tanisha’s blog here .
